The Redolent Story
A phone call, a few drinks, a dream, and a heap of grapes
ABOUT US
Redolent Wine is collaboration between Jon Larson and Boyd Pearson. Jon takes the lead on the winemaking at Redolent, as he has been a fermenter for decades of everything from grapes and grains to cheese and bread to kimchi and kombucha, never stopping his quest for knowledge about the mystical process of fermentation. Boyd takes the lead on sales, as he is a veteran salesman in the wine industry and a lifelong student of wine and the business of wine, always seeking to learn and taste more. As much as he loves discovering a new wine, Boyd loves introducing others to memorable wines.
With every responsibility falling at the feet of the two of us, our exact roles are honestly hard to fully define. We both do everything. Jon certainly helps in sales, and Boyd is no stranger to the cellar. We are equally involved in the tasting and blending for the decision on the final wines.
We relish the journey wine offers, and we bring all of our experiences to the table to collaborate on every wine we make. We continue to push each other through experimentation to try and produce wines redolent of place and wines redolent of pleasure.
The Origin Story - First Vintage in 2015
David Polite of Carlton Hill Vineyard contacted Boyd and said he had an extra ton of Pinot Noir available should Boyd want it. Boyd immediately contacted Jon to help make this single vineyard Pinot Noir. We then contacted John Grochau of GC Wines to see if he had some space available at his winery, as we realized pretty quickly this was more grapes than we could handle and produce wine in Jon’s basement!
Call it a lucky break. Call it providential. Call it propitious. We just hope you call it delicious! Like the seasons, life comes full circle, and you get through it with a little help from your friends. Redolent Wine is the result of great vineyards and great friendships.
Committed to Pure, Elegant, Thoughtful Wines
We continue to produce our wine at the GC Wines facility in Amity, OR, and when it comes to winemaking for Redolent Wine, we strive to simply be stewards of the metamorphosis from grapes into wine. We aim to abstain from intervening in this process both in the fermentation and aging of the wines. We seek to capture the true, pure nature of the grapes, the place, and the vintage.
